So what’s beyond searching?
In 50 years Computer Science moved from mainframe to desktop to laptop to hand held to network to knowledge mining. Combining for synergy seems in, as ever in capital growth, but will the little chap squeezed out by democracy get a better look in than by blogging? Yes is likely. Our need for adventure transcends our common sense too often for stasis to be our lot.

The search for consciousness is the long term dream. Not so, says Penrose, not on. SF readers take note. Misdirection of the masses is a tendency for some groups.

Let’s focus on utility: the ability of each of us to achieve potential is a noble and fulfilable aim once we learn to self-educate. Hence our interest in the hundred dollar computer.

Perhaps the biggest step beyond searching is the conquering of hubris. Being able to look into the blank patches of our own brain, and direct our thoughts into sensible paths, now that would be exciting for the future. No more evolution by testosterone.
